« on: Monday 07 May 18 07:44 BST (UK) »
Any assistance for information on William BRYANT, Parkhurst Boys Prison September 1842 to August 1845 then transported on Stratheden to Tasmania would be greatly appreciated.  Conviction for larceny (stealing beef) and sentenced to 7 years, age 14/15.  Thanks

Welcome to rootschat

What information are you after, his family in England or his life after transportation.

Do you know where he was born or who his parents were

Do you know if he also offended in Tasmania in 1865 (age 38, born Gloucestershire) or is that an unrelated man?

Hi
Thankyou for such a quick response Rosie 99 and chempat.
Rosie 99:  I am looking for any information prior to conviction in England. I believe his mother was Mary and sister was Sarah from Lambeth.  He was listed as being in the Minories.  At the age of 14 I believe he was labouring in that area and was convicted with James Lowry aged 18.  I am also particularly interested in any information on his time in Parkhurst Boys Prison on the Isle of Wight. I know that when he came to Tasmania he was indented to Newtown Farm and was given a certificate of freedom on 27 Sep 1850 but have no information from that point on.
Chempat:  From my research of several William's (all convicts who may be my ancestor) there was one in 1865 transported originally on the William Jardine in 1844 and convicted in Tasmania for horse stealing (aged approx 45).  Another William known as Bryan rather than Bryant transported on Sir Robert Peel 1844 was convicted in 1865 for larceny in Campbelltown Tasmania for 3 months aged 38.  I have no other information on this William.  Both these Williams are also persons of interest to me.
Forgive me for being so long winded, but I am truly excited with the prospect of any assistance.
The other Williams I am researching were transported to Norfolk Island on the Mangles (1844) and  Agincourt transported to Norfolk Island (1844).  I hope in my excitement I have not overloaded ... Cheers

Hello and welcome ivdale  :)

It is best to post what you already have or believe to be information.
You mention mother Sarah and sister Mary. Where is this information?
I can see one William Bryant in 1841 in Lambeth but he is too old. Do you have the census information?

There is a prison record 1842 which notes William Bryant being removed from the Prison Hulk, Euryalus to Parkhurst.
There is also his removal in 1845 from Parkhurst where he is described as 18 years old and a Painter. He was sentenced at Kingston upon Thames.  I would imagine you have this detail.

Where do you have his conviction with James Lowry?

Regards

His convict records are available here:

ivdale, if you are trying to identify your ancestor it would most likely be easier if you told us what you know about him - where and when married/died etc.  The ages of the convicts you have mentioned are quite far apart.  Sorry I was subtracting from the wrong year  :P
