George Davidson & Susanna McConville - Scotland & Ireland to Gateshead
« on: Wednesday 09 May 18 08:47 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone has some tips that can help take me back a bit further / help direct my research - I have traced my family in Gateshead back to George Davidson and Susanna McConville who married in Gateshead in 1863.

The marriage certificate (St Josephs Gateshead) states George was a Jobbing Labourer age 20 with Father George Davidson a Cabinet Maker, and Susanna age 21 with father Peter McConville a Jobbing Labourer. They were living in Nelson street Gateshead at the time.

My problem is that George was born in Scotland and Susanna in Ireland and though I can see them both in the Gateshead Census in 1871 and 1881 (and I think George in Gateshead 1861) I can't find anything earlier or anything later for them - any ideas or help? What resources can we search where people move between Scotland / Ireland / England?

Any help would be appreciated to help me unblock this one!

If you estimate Suzanna's father was born c.1820, wasn't deceased at time of Marriage... you can try looking for a Death of father

http://www.rootschat.com/links/01m10/  gets you Civil Reg  Death results for George Davidson from 1863 to 1910

Displaying results 1 - 21 of 21.

Looking at ages at Death you can eliminate many.

You might find a George, Cabinet maker among them.

Thanks I can look there for Susanna's father Peter as they were from Ireland - and he was alive at the time of marriage - I just wouldn't know if he was the right one as there are a lot of labourers... ?  George was from Scotland...

Nothing on Pensions. I can see Peter McConville (different spelling) on the original death search you recommended but there are 13... not sure how I could link him to Susanna...
