William Shelton appears to be on the 1841 and 1851 census living in Eaton  which is described as "...a parish in Melton Mowbray district ... post town  Branstone under Grantham".

It is apparently 8 miles as the crow flies from Eaton to Grantham.

Looks like a good find in the 1911, Jon.

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)

Hi
Hopefully! His (former) occupation fits.
That death flagged up by Colin, March qtr 1918, Islington, William Shelton, age 80, might then be a possibility.
Looks like buried at Islington Cemetery, 8 March 1918

There's this chap in Islington in 1911. Wife here is Ada
https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XWG9-9HH

In relation to this William SHELTON mention is made he was of Eaton Grantham, Lincolnshire.  The William I am seeking was born in Asfordby, Leicestershire?  The grocer aspect is interesting???

I wonder if William of Asfordby, Leicestershire had a son that I have not located???  But if this were the case he would have had to be born before William of Asfordby, Leicestershire married Eliza DOWNING in 1865 ??? :-\

Most curious.

That is definitely William born at Asfordby, Leicestershire whose father was Joseph a shepherd and the family moved to Eaton, Leicestershire after William was baptised.

I am so very grateful for everyone's contributions so far.
