I would get the death certificate to confirm address and cause of death - he might have only been in Epsom for medical treatment right before his death, for example.

He was born in Whitechapel, not Epsom area.  There are Dovens in Surrey but not in that area.

The Queensland Police Gazette indexes show that a warrant was issued for a John Joseph DOVEN in 1922.  Perhaps it was for desertion.  Your local library should have the gazette on CD.

   Welcome to rootschat. :)

   I guess you have seen son Walter’s WW1 service record.

   He enlists in Melbourne in 1915 ( modified to 1913) and gives his NOK as father  Joseph J DOVEN with the address in Credon Road.

   Interesting  that the army is still looking for Walter’s address in 1923 to send his medals.

yes thank you ,I have Walters ww1 Records,
but as jorose and Rosie99 said, I will have to check Birth and Death and make sure I have my facts right.
and Dundee, I will have to look at my Tree for John Joseph Doven, and see if I have the right one.
My goodness, when doing this research you don't realize how many people have the same name.
but it's all very interesting isn't it?
