Sandhurst christening - WILLIAM HOPE - help please!
« on: Monday 08 August 05 22:06 BST (UK) »
Hello,

I hope that someone may be able to help. I am looking for the birth of a William HOPE in Sandhurst.

The first time I encountered him was on the 1851 census for Caernarfon. His birthplace is down as Sandhurst, Hants.  (I presume that Sandhurst Hants and Sandhurst Berks is the same place?)

He was 54 in 1851 so was born c. 1797.

Later in life he was recorded as being at one time a musician and another as a sergeant major. This may give a clue to his father's profession?

So just to recap, William HOPE, born c 1797, Sandhurst.

If anyone were kind enough to take the time to look it up at the record office, I would be most grateful.

Many thanks in advance,
Sam Adamson

Hi everyone,

I think that it will be Sandhurst Berks,  as on the 1851 census it did say Sandhurst, *Hants*.  And, as I think we have decided,  "Sandhurst Hants doesn't exist and Sandhurst Berks does."

Would anyone be able to help with my request for looking up the birth? I understand if no-one has the time. That said, I'm in no rush!

Thanks,
Sam

Sam,

Have you tried FreeBMD or 1837online for a certificate?

Hi,

That's great - thanks newbie.

I didn't look on freebmd etc because the birth was pre1837.

Thanks again newbie, I look forward to hearing from you.

Best wishes,
Sam

Just a thought did you try the IGI - LDS search?
http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp
came up with a few but none in Berks.
