William McMurchy

I am looking for information on my 5th great grandfather William McMurchy.  He was born around 1720 in Campbeltown, Kintyre, Argyll (spelling?), Scotland and died around 1780.  He was supposedly known as a Piper.  Had two sons, John and Thomas, who left Scotland in 1770 to come to America.

We have information on his sons and decendents going forward, but no other information about him or who he married.

A quick google search throws up various other leads on this family.

Have you been in contact with others who have them in their trees on other sites, and have you looked on this site ('Surname interests' in 'Your Tools', below) to try and find out more?

one possibility - that's if John was born in Campbelltown -

 Gender     Male   
 Christening Date     07 Mar 1762   
 Christening Place     CAMPBELTOWN,ARGYLL,SCOTLAND   
 Birth Date     04 Mar 1762   
 Father's Name     William Mc Murchy   
 Mother's Name    Mary Wilson   
make a note of it in case it IS your John - I will see if there is also a Thomas ??

Isobel McMurchey - baptised 31st August - born 27th August 1760 Campbelltown father William / mother Mary Wilson ....
Mary McMurchey born 4th Jan 1768 baptised 7th Jan 1768 - same abode and parents
Jean - b 14th June 1765 / bap 16th jun 1765 - same abode / parents
John 1762
Margaret 1768
these may be too old - if you say William was born 1720 - it makes him 39 / 40 at the first born ??
anyway 5 kids for William McMurchey and Mary Wilson ....probably related - but COULD be your William in Campbelltown .

A tree has sons born 1739 (John) and 1744 (Thomas), (otherwise they would have been children if left in 1770.)

I have not looked back at this till now.  I have printed the information you referenced about the Piper.  Where do I go to see the "tree" you mentioned in your post about William McMurchy's sons, John and Thomas?
