Hi Adrian,

There seems to be another thread which you started very recently on the same chap at:

Hope you don't mind if I mention this (the 1881 census information was provided to you there).

Do you use the IGI?  It is available FREE online at:
http://www.familysearch.org
There do not seem to be records for the birth/baptism of either Edward or Margaret there - however, as that would have been before the start of Statutory Registration in Scotland (1855), the only possibility of finding them would be in the baptismal records of church registers (and it is quite possible that they were not baptised and/or the records have not survived and/or have not been indexed).

The IGI records the marriage of Edward MASON to Margaret HOSSACK in 1871 and also the births of sons Robert in 1872, and William Edward in 1874.  (The IGI does not usually have Scottish information after 1875).

As ADP advised on the other thread, you will be able to find lots of information on ScotlandsPeople (it is a pay per view site but the charges are reasonable) at:
http://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

If you purchase (view/download) the 1871 marriage certificate, it should list the name and occupation of the father of each of the bride and groom, and the name and maiden surname of each mother.

If any or all of the parents lived into the time of Statutory Registration, you should be able to find their deaths on ScotlandsPeople - the death certificates will list (if known by the informant) the names of their parents (i.e. Edward's and Margaret's grandparents) ...

You should also be able to find further information about children of Edward and Margaret on SP - from birth certificates, and  from the 1891 and 1901 censuses which are online at ScotlandsPeople (as also are the 1871 - where you might find Edward and Margaret before their marriage, and where you might find their parents - and the 1881).

Good hunting on SP,

JAP
