What other people have ( I am assuming you mean trees) really doesn't matter, most trees are just copied information from each other they are not researched nor proved, most of those trees are tree of names, dates, places, not researched family history.
So you need to find real records, starting with the death registration index purchasing the death cert and PR burial record, going back to find the census, to the marriage PR/civil records, then the birth registration and /or baptism record and gleaning all the relevant information from those real records and cross referencing to make sure you are not just searching a name as more than one person can ( and do) use the same names and in the same areas, as that is the ONLY way you will know.
My advice would be make sure you are sure and have each real record of one persons life events before you try to go back further as it is not a race but a long term project to find YOUR ancestry, so you want YOUR ancestors in that tree not 'someone who fits' The other advice is everything is not online.
