Let me know if you have information related to my great grandparents Nicholas & Laura MIELE, who were from Italy and married on 30 Aug 1889 in New York. I'm specifically looking for their birth records and details about their parents (Raffaele MIELE & Maria CORONIELLI) and (Francesco CONTARDI & Elizabetha SIMORELLO). I'm also interested in learning about Nicholas and Laura's children's spouses and children.
Here is some background on Nicholas and Laura: I've heard that Nicholas was an orphan raised by a Catholic priest in Frascati, Italy (just outside Rome), and that Laura was born in Nice, France, but I can't verify any of that. I do have a copy of a New York Passenger List from 1 July 1889 showing Laura arrived that day on the ship "Alesia" at age 25, with the nationality "Italian," and with Naples, Italy as the port of departure. They had 8 children who survived, and 2 that died in infancy (Elisa? & Carlo?). The whole family moved from New York to southern California in the 1920s. Based on the 1900, 1910, and 1920 US Census, and based on information from Patrick Miele (son of Henry Miele), everyone in the family Americanized their names and/or had nick-names, as follows:
Nicolino = Nicholas
Lauretta = Laura
1. Enrico = Henry
2. Adolfo = Adolf, Joe (middle name was Joseph)
3. Mary = Mae
4. Alberto = Albert, Al
5. Emily = Eleanor Jane
6. Charles = Chuck
7. Eduardo = Edward, Eddy (this is my late grandfather)
8. Matilda = Dorothy, Dot, Dodie
If you are interested, I have pictures of Nicholas and Laura (and my grandfather Edward).
Thank you!
