Marriage search
« on: Thursday 26 July 18 19:20 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I need help finding a marriage if there was one at all.  Abraham Naylor (1831 Haydock,Lancs) was living/married to a  Mary Sheehan/O'neil/McNeil, the different surnames are given as maiden name on the children's birth records.  They lived in 1861 in Penarth Glamorgan and then 1871 & 1881 in Pontypridd.  Abraham dies in 1885 in the workhouse in Cardiff and Mary dies in 1894.  There are two death records for Mary (I think) Mary Naylor and Mary O'Neil.
Can anyone shed some light why there may be varying surnames listed as maiden name on birth records.
Children:-
Mary Jane 1867 Cardiff
William J 1870 Pontypridd
Elizabeth 1872
Rachel Ellen 1875
Abraham 1877
Annie 1879
James 1883
Sarah 1885
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Andrea

Is this the 1871 census entry?

Abraham NAILER 40 Haydock Lancashire, Carpenter
Mary 27 Lanishan Cardiff
Mary J 4 Cardiff
William J 7 Llanwonno
RG10; Piece: 5379; Folio: 9; Page: 12

Could this Mary be a second wife?

Can you give the reference/details of the 1861 census please

If Mary’s death is registered in the alternative as O’Neil then perhaps this couple never married (but she was born Sheehan and had previously been married to a Mr O’Neil)?

Caithness: MacGregor
Essex: Eldred (Pebmarsh)
Gloucs: Timbrell (Winchcomb)

Yes Mary first child 1867 and the only child with Sheehan as maiden name.

I can't find Mary's birth entry - do you have the birth certificate for her?

This looks to be Mary's death entry

Mary Naylor age 46
1894 Oct-Nov-Dec Cardiff Volume:   11a Page:   194

and this appears to be Abraham's

Abraham Naylor age 52
1885 Oct-Nov-Dec Cardiff   Volume:   11a Page:   141

but I can't see a marriage on FreeBMD  ???
