Susannah James
« on: Thursday 26 July 18 20:59 BST (UK) »
Hi again , I'm trying to locate the husband and father of Susannah (Susan or even Hannah) James. She was born in 1813 in Staffs. I know she remarried again in 1849 to William Wood. But she had 3 children with her first husband George, Emma & Alice in 1835, 37 & 39 respectively.  I think their fathers name was Thomas, however the father's details are missing from what I think are the children's baptism details. Susanbah's details are there but not the father. In 1841 she was living with a William Baines who I thought maybe her Father as he is 30yrs older but who knows. I think most of the above is fact but looking for anything else I could  have missed in confirming the father and husband of Susannah , as always many thanks in advance - Richard

You don't state what surname the kids were baptised as, not where.

Getting the marriage cert to Wood could give parental info for her,

William Wood married Susannah James and the children you mention were baptised as James so are you saying that her first husband was Thomas James and it's him that you are trying to trace?
Were the children born in Dudley?

Bev

Yes, trying to confirm the first husband and father of the children was indeed Thomas James , not sure about the Dudley connection

From FamilySearch:

Name    Emma James
Gender    Female
Christening Date    15 Oct 1837
Christening Date (Original)    15 OCT 1837
Christening Place    PENKRIDGE,STAFFORD,ENGLAND
Father's Name    Thomas James
Mother's Name    Susannah

There is this marriage

Name    Thomas James
Spouse's Name    Susana Hughes
Event Date    16 Jun 1833
Event Place    Wolverhampton, Stafford, England

but I'm wondering if there is more than one family around with similar names, because it looks like Susannah who married William Wood had not been married at all before.

Thanks Bev, Why do you think Susannah hadn't been married before, if you don't mind me asking.
EDIT ah right, just seen "Spinster"so would she have 3 children out of wedlock? seems unlikely given the times. My head hurts :-)
