« on: Wednesday 22 August 18 05:06 BST (UK) »
james Reid and Janet burns married about 1768 in South Leith, first child  Andrew born in 1770
I cant find birth or parents  for James Reid, there are so many James Reids, Janet  Burns ,I think was ch.1734 in South Leith parent John and Isabel Reid.
Could anybody help me find James Reids Parents please.
Thank you

I think you have a very difficult task, I have tried to find a birth following naming patterns without much success. Just a small point I do not think Andrew was the eldest child, he was the eldest son, note below on SP.

JAMES REID/JANET BURNS   - Leith South (No trace of marriage on SP)

BARBARA 1/7/1765 died 1767
MARION 29/11/1767
ANDREW 6/5/1770
DAVID 6/3/1774 died 1775
JOHN 9/11/1778
ISABEL 4/4/1776

JEAN died 3/9/1764 age 1 – father James
ELIZABETH died 11/10/1774 age 1 – father James

kevynne, don't make the classic error of assuming that because there is only one obvious candidate in the records, it is the right person.

Unfortunately the further back you go, the more incomplete the extant records are, and the greater the likelihood that the information you want has simply not survived.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
