I think it is very possible that no.17 was Thomas Kidman's baker's shop. (It was my first thought).

As you can see, 8 Southfield Road is purely residential so he must have worked from a shop somewhere. The houses on Southfield are lovely and the area looks to be fairly affluent now as it would have been in the 30s.

I wonder if there are any trade directories or newspaper advertisements which may help you find Kidman's bakery and when and where it was? .

Great minds think alike.

I thought perhaps he would have had a bussiness somewhere, but not sure how far from his home, No 17, West Broadway Ealing would be. And, I still think his son-in-law John Moyise worked for him and John & Seymour lived above the shop.

That would be great to find any trade directory or newspaper advertisements which could confirm if and where his Bakers shop was.

Thank you.

Acton to Ealing is a couple of miles, so it would be possible to walk and people did walk more in those days .... however, being a baker, and if he had his own shop, would you think that he might have a truck or van (or cart?)? (for deliveries etc)

It also depends on the time line. He lived in Southfield Road in 1939, but where did he live in 1946 when John lived in Ealing?

I wonder if electoral rolls might help trace their movements?

Not between 1939 and 1946 when the government had other things on its mind.

London is sunny this morning so after I've done some chores (the washing machine is already on) I'll trundle off and have a look.

Thank you for the information.

Now, I don't know where he lived in 1946 but between 1956 and 1964 (the year he died)  I beleive he was living at 11 Crown Road, Frier Barnet, Middlesex.

I realise the Government would have more important things on their mind.

The glorious weather has gone from here wet and miserable.

I do appreciate you taking up your time to look for me. Have a safe and pleasant drive.
