Thanks, Ros.  Can you think of a way that I can find out HOW he died at such a young age?  He sounds like a very accomplished person.

I'll look for more info Robang.

Here is a list of his achievements in 1914 within the Public Service  when he was Secretary to The Prices Commission (from The Advertiser 14 Sep 1914).  Quite a successful young man!
http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article6431310

It mentions military experience with the unattached list as a captain ... can't find anything on
http://www.naa.gov.au/collection/search/

This obit says he retired several years ago http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article128864535
(from News Oct 7 1933).

Not finding anything useful ...

He did leave a will and estate worth 1943 pounds http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article90957633

Here is a little about probate and wills and death certs in South Australia http://guides.slsa.sa.gov.au/bdm/SAdeaths

There will be others along soon who are more familiar with South Australian  records

Question re estate of D.R. Davidson:   Was estate of 1943 pounds considered average or above average back in 1933?  Trying to equate it to today's values.

Thanks, Ros.  Seems it was a sizeable estate for that time, and for his family's sake, I hope it was the $4,500,000 figure.

Here is a link to the South Australia Resources Board here at RChat: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=280572.0

Here is a link to the National Library of Australia's Trove website, which includes the digitised newspapers, but has many other aspects as well https://trove.nla.gov.au/

As a suggestion, for purchasing power of £1943/-/- here are two links for the Adelaide Newspaper, The Advertiser from 1933.  Much of Australia was in the grips of the economic crisis, the Great Depression.

Continuing on from that broad value estimate it says :

If you want to compare the value of a £1,943 0s 0d Commodity in 1933 there are four choices.
In 2017 the relative:
real price of that commodity is $164,200.00
labour value of that commodity is $751,100.00 (using average weekly earnings) or $425,600.00 (using the national minimum wage)
income value of that commodity is $1,207,800.00
economy share of that commodity is $4,488,000.00

And there is a lot more too ...
