Wife's name on Baptism entry
« on: Tuesday 28 August 18 05:09 BST (UK) »
Can anybody make out the name of John Brownsord's wife please? The transcriber hasn't even made an attempt on findmypast.
(There is another entry for a child, a daughter of Thomas 'Brownsword', which must be the same family)
Starts with a 'J' the same as 'John'?
Thanks

I would say Jone, goldie.

It's only four letters.  You can see where the his begins.

Only the e is unclear.

ADDED:

Note that two forms of e can be seen.  Most are in mid-word positions and are the common "backwards" e.

At the end of (what I think is) Keene in the last line, he uses the other form; the one similar to a backwards 3.

Seems the writer likes to connect their capital J's and lowercase H's. I see the following:

Jah?? Kildar?
Could also be Joh with the bottom left foot of the H with a second curl back.

Possiblly "Jahne Kildare?"

Forgive my bad tracing.

My two cents.
I just like to do photo restores.

Definitely 'his wyf' at the end, and having played with the levels a bit, I'm sure it's 'Jone'.

The mark above the 'n' is nowhere near as pronounced as the loop in the 'h' of 'John' and 'his', so is almost certainly just a mark in the paper.
Researching among others:
Bartle, Bilton, Bingley, Campbell, Craven, Emmott, Harcourt, Hirst, Kellet(t), Kennedy,
Meaburn, Mennile/Meynell, Metcalf(e), Palliser, Robinson, Rutter, Shipley, Stow, Wilkinson
