One of my cousins tells me, that a related family member to Mary Jane Brown (perhaps a nephew?) was a Dr. Henry Jarvis (Jervis?) living in Creetown. He had a surgery in his home. My cousin met him in 1981 and she believes he was in his mid 80’s then. He died later that year.

Just found the death entry of Margaret Hyslop Brown, probably Mary Jane's mother:

Margaret Muir, widow of James Muir, labourer. Aged 87
Died - 25 May 1943, 1 pm at Cottage Hospital, Castle Douglas
Parents - James Brown (deceased) and Margaret(??)* Brown MS Clint (deceased)
Cause - Myocarditis, Acute Cardiac failure.

Informant - A H Jarvis, Son in law, Auchencairn

* informants often give the wrong name and as Mary Brown  (MS Clint) died in 1858. It is probable that her daughter's son in law would be unsure/mistake the name.

It now looks very likely that the Mary Jane, daughter of Margaret Brown, b. 1878 is your Mary Jane.

Alfred Henry Jarvis  married Sarah Muir Lambeth Q2 1907.

They were the likely parents of the Dr Henry Jarivs that you remember.
Alfred died in 1950, Auchencairn. Henry Jarvis was the informant.

I've not found any record so far in Ireland for William Clint  :-\

Are there any other Clints in the area, b. Ireland?

Added - I'm mixing him up with the Brown family - he was b. Kelton/Castle Douglas!!
