John Edward Ijewsky of Wallasey, Cheshire (now Merseyside), England.
« on: Sunday 16 September 18 17:44 BST (UK) »
Hi,

I am submitting this photo of my uncle John for restoration. The original was small, only 4cm x 7cm.
It is the only picture I have of him and it was taken circa 1918 when he was about 16 years old.

He was born 24th August 1902 in Bradford, Yorkshire and came to Wallasey in about 1904 where he spent the rest of his life.  He used his mother's maiden surname for most of his life and was aka John Edward Needham.

He was a mason, and apparently, a grand master in a lodge in either Wallasey or Birkenhead.  I don't know for sure because I have never research it. (I wouldn't know where to start!).

He married and divorced and had no children. He died 16th February 1968 in Wallasey.

It is unusual for one so young to wear pinze nez, they are usually seen on older men.

Hi Pat,

Many thanks for what you have done to the picture.  However, the eyelids on the left hand corner of his right eye seem blurred to me when I compere them to the original.  Can I be a pain and ask you to try and remedy this?  Otherwise, it is brilliant.

I knew my uncle quite well and it doesn't surprise me that he wore pinz nez glasses.  he was a fastidious man.  My dad said he was a manual worker who went to work in a suit and tie and bowler hat and carried his working clothes in a briefcase!  He didn't say what his workmates thought of him!

Baz.

Hi Baz, Thank you for your comments on my restoration of your uncle. He sounds quite a character.
I've had another go at the eyelid, just hope I haven't 'played with it too much and that it is OK for you.

Hi Pat,

That's a lot clearer, thanks very much.  He was a character, set in his Victorian ways!
