Morning folks

An update

I found out a few pieces from 4 certs

William Alexander hardie died 23-11-43 - 35 years old ,in Aberdeen mother emmie hardie and witness is robina ( widow)

He had married robina young Milne
31st July 1936

Her parents were James Milne and Isabella Barron young

Also found that Emma jane hardie
Formerly emelia jane hardy smith died in Aberdeen 20 December 1956

Her witness is son and law

A butler

Since then I have seen a record for a marriage or Elsie Jane hardie to  a A Butler

So I think Emma hardie had at least 2 children

The one mentioned above
William
Hardie and the one who married A Butler

I’m not sure if there is much more to Persue on this as this family isn’t direct blood to me, the only thing that may be interesting to know is who is the father to Elsie Jane hardie ?

Seems to be that Emma hardie the mother was illegitimate and was her son William hardie

So it’s looking very like the smith family was either fostering or adopted William
Hardie for a while

Another interesting idea I had was if it would be possible to find out more on Agnes Robertsons second marriage to see witness and perhaps her death

But for now it looks like John and Agnes smith didn’t have any family

Hi Ryan the death for William Alexander Hardie 23/11/1943 has just confirmed the record I found on
www.findagrave.com
Sgt William Alexander Hardie 23 November 1942
Burial Trinity Cemetery ..Broadhill Extension Aberdeen

Can I ask was this a first marriage for William Alexander Hardie ?

Yes it looks like he was either adopted or boarding with your John Smith ...does his marriage record mention a fathers name ?

There is also possible son James Reid Hardie born 1900 Longside Aberdeen
He is recorded as the nephew of Ann/Hardie Davidson 1 month on the 1901 census I mentioned

There is a possible death for a James Reid Hardie 1971 Peterhead age 70 years

Did you veiw the marriage record for Elsie Jane Hardy to Andrew Forbes Butler ?

Excellent work
Rosie

I can’t seem
To find anything doing that search ?

I presume it’s the first marriage but not 100
Percent sure

Also in his birth death and marriage no father is listed

I didn’t look at the record for Butler marriage but perhaps this is an interesting idea as it would maybe give us a fathers name for the possible 2 siblings we have mentioned ?

Can you help me see the record I can’t see it and tried 5 times to search ( grave record )

Ryan

The marriage for Elsie Jane Hardie to Andrew Forbes Butler 1940 Aberdeen ref 168/361
The only birth I see in same area would be Elsie Jane Hardie 1916 Old Machar Aberdeen

Regarding William's marriage certificate he would have been listed as widower if married before sometimes that's not always recorded ..I don't think you will ever find out who the real father was

Thanks Rosie
Got  the record this time

Wonder why he’s listed as sergeant on his grave record could this have been a death when not in service or would there be any other info available for William in war
Records ?

It’s complicated for sure on the certs we probably won’t find the father of Emma hardie but maybe the other 2 siblings would indicate who their father is

William Alexander Hardie Sergeant
Service number 2872589
Gordon Highlanders
You would need to subscribe to view records or if in Aberdeen maybe try Gordon Highlanders Bridge of Don
