Soutter - Ballindreen, Coleraine
« on: Wednesday 10 October 18 00:58 BST (UK) »
Hi to all the Soutter Family Researchers.

My Great Grandmother was Dorothy Soutter - known as Dolly. She married my great grandfather John Campbell on 4th August 1930 in Coleraine Registrar Office. Her father James was Dead, and her address is given as Ballindreen. She states her age as 30 years old.

I have been unable to locate her on the 1901 or 1911 NI Census. I have also been unable to locate a birth record for her.

She died on 7th July 1956 and is laid to rest in St Paul's, Kildollagh. As her death is advertised in the Belfast News Letter, I am assuming she does not originate from Ballindreen.

Any information or guidance would be greatly appreciated as I am at a complete dead-end with this search. To date, I have no confirmed death certificate for her father either.

Thank You

It's not that unusual to find death notices for Coleraine people in the Belfast papers.

Wonder if she was slightly older than stated on marriage certificate?

There's a Dorothy Suitor, age 6, here in 1901 with relatives named McKelvey and a possible younger sister. Dorothy's born in America and sister in County Tyrone- www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Londonderry/Bellaghy/Mullaghboy/1541423

Added- does marriage certificate list James Soutter's occupation? Who were the witnesses?

Not yet saying the Dorothy Suiter I found in 1901 census is your Dorothy Soutter but just following up leads to either make the connection or disprove it.

James Souter (born Scotland) married (1894 Manhattan, N.Y.) Eliza Anderson, daughter of Thomas (looking like Sarah McKelvey was her sister)-

Thank you for this information.

Re Reply #1
On Dorothy's marriage certificate (from GRONI) her father's profession is recorded as Dec'd.

Witnesses are W J Bradley & Lily (or Liby) McAuley.

Does this help?

James Soutar's birth- https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQTS-N47

Think I've found your Dorothy but some of it's fairly recent, and probably very sad (not surprising after seeing 1911 census)- will send more details in PM shortly.
