Not sure I knew about him.. although I did go through all Marshalls at the time.. and have given his father the maybe name of -- Mr Marshall... Wish there were Bastardy records for the area.. but Elizabeth seems to have --- left him with the Clements (family or friends) whilst she went off to earn a living.
This worried me at first.. thinking she had dumped him, but no.. the photograph and the later connections - made me realise she tried to keep him within the family.
How would he have known his half sisters otherwise...
One of my private 'hero's' -- he seemed although to tell the occasional little fib.. to attempt to keep up a respectable trade and good family life.
I think I will spend today just researching as much about his kids as possible..
I know a lot already -- Albert - never married and lived as part of a . n other family for most of his life... And seemingly not around when his Mother died, she died an awful death.. Dropped her lamp and set herself on fire.. May have been slightly inebriated .. but not fair to say that as it is an assumption.
Albert is down as a Cripple on the 1911 - I presumed this was to do with his service in the Boar war.. but his records dont mention anything. I know that the family he lived with were an important part of his life as he seems to have spent a lot of time with them.. He is down as having had syphillis as did his brother - my direct line Robert.
I have a photo of Robert as an old man... he it is said was a quiet man - kept himself away from his family. Not a Jolly soul.
So yes I will look into the family today -- its good to spend one day with one particular branch.. to gain that feeling of closeness.
Sadly Charles Grandson that was named after him was killed in the 2nd world war.
