Something is stranger here though ???

Census has;
Robert Elvin   30
Elizabeth Elvin   25
Robt Elvin   9
Leah Elvin   6
Charles Elvin 4
Mary Elvin   1

FreeREG has Bapts;
ROBERT 2 April 1837 (birth 09 Feb 1832)
LEAH 2 Apr 1837 (birth 7 April 1834)
CHARLES 2 April 1837 (birth 5 March 1837)

Parents as ROBERT/ISABELLA as per Marianne I found Bapt 1843. birth 1840

So was Elizabeth also known as Isabella, looks like it?

Yes, looks like it! Or some kind of mistake in 1841 perhaps.

I agree with the findings - although married as Elizabeth Beeton, and Elizabeth on 1841 census, Elizabeth is shown as Isabella on her childrens baptisms and her death is as Isabella Elvin in Sept.1846 Forehoe.   Robert remarried to a Charlotte Sharpe, widow, 2/8/1847 Wymondham and in 1851 looks like Robert is a patient in hospital in Norwich, and Mary Ann is with her stepmother Charlotte (shown as dau. in law).

The place 'Sinfield' does indeed appear to be 'Silfield' as on childrens baptisms.

So it looks like Robert was Bapt 17 Dec 1809 to CHARLES/ANN nee Copeman

I see Robert/Charlotte had a least 1 child;
ELVIN, WILLIAM  SHARP, Mothers mn    HOWLETT**
GRO Reference: 1847  S Quarter in FOREHOE  Volume 13  Page 121

Cant seem to find if Amelia was born Sharp/e or Elvin.

Thanks to you all for the research you must have undertaken on this topic.

I will now go through the whole piece of my research again and see if this will get me any further. I am inclined to think that Sinfield could well be Silfield and, if this is the case, then more will probably become clear.  I've been researching families in and round this area for many years and have never seen any other reference to Sinfield - I thought I knew most of the places around there and have never seen it anywhere else. My only reservation is that there are 4 references to Sinfield - can they all be wrong?

Having looked at the Methodist Norwich Circuit shown by the earlier link, there is no mention of Silfield and, as many places around there are mentioned, perhaps I would have expected it to be there. However, in My Primitive Methodists the Silfield Primitive Methodist Chapel has an opening date of 1867.

The plot could well thicken further .....

Thanks, everyone, again.

Just looking at census transcriptions, there are a number of other people who may say that they were born Sinfield, Norfolk. One or two have Sinfield, Wymondham.
There are also some mentions in some early newspapers.
But I haven't checked all these!!
And a pdf online of some sort of archaeological assessment of land at Hall Farm, Stanfield Road, Wymondham, Norfolk. Which mentions a 1797 map where "Silfield to the south is shown as Sinfield"

So perhaps once upon a time Silfield had also been known locally as Sinfield?

Hi,  I found Silfield listed as Sinfield on a very old map.  I don’t have it to hand but it likely came from the Scottish library archives which have digital maps free to view online.
I hope that helps.
