The baptisms are on Ancestry - all three have the address The Union House.  I think Hannah is listed as Susannah.  Baptisms on 12 and 13 April 1879

I think I've found the third child Clara Eliza in the workhouse as well in 1881, listed as Eliza

Quite possibly the right family if Edward has died or left the family (given no more children after 1871 seems quite possible) and Mary is struggling to cope

I can’t find a birth / census for Mary Jane Penn, with a father William, shoemaker, in London around 1843/44, or a marriage to a Mr Stephens

I thought this might be her

Jon, i’m so so sorry, i had completely forgotten i’d already posted on this. Had I remembered i would have updated the original post. I have done so much in the last few weeks on this tree (for a friend) and this was the one major problem left.

Please accept my apologies.

I’m not sure i can understand however if this is the right Mary Ann / Jane, how she could abandon her children. It does however all seem to fit.

Not found a death for Edward yet, and we have a Mary birth, Mary Ann as the mother on the baptisms and Mary Jane later on
