That's been my issue.  On Scotland's people (I started with the microfiche before hand).  There are 145 McCorgray entries, 20 McCorgary, 45 McCorgery, 9 McCorgory. as well as entries for McCorgry, and McCorgorie.  BUT in Ireland nothing that looks close enough.

"John McCorgray  married Catherine McGinnes in Hamilton, Scotland on 16 Oct 1855.  He gave his age as 23 and Catherine as 20.

John gave his place of birth as Co. Donegal, Parish of Donaghmore and his parents as Daniel McCorgray and Ellen Sweeney.  "

He may well have been born Donegal if mother "went home" to give birth....

The family could have also moved some time after his birth but before his marriage.

Ye,  if she went back to Scotland after giving birth, having returned "home" to give Birth.

My point was that the McCorgray name can not be found anywhere, at any time on Civil Reg!

Daniel McCorgray may never have been in Ireland!

I was agreeing with you, saying that that was my issue I have found all these people with the name in Scotland, yet I cannot find a single record in Ireland.

If Daniel had never set foot in Ireland.  Why would he give his place of birth as Ireland in the 1851, 61, 71 and 81 censuses.  The Irish tended to be discriminated against at the time so I don't understand why he would say he was from Ireland if he had never set foot there?

FindMyPast has an "outrage report" concerning the burning of a house in 1836 in Donaghmore, in which a Daniel McCorgary was the chief suspect having been ejected from the house some 18 years previously. So there is evidence of a similar name in use in Donaghmore.
