Exciting news!

From an article just published in the latest issue of The New Zealand Genealogist comes a mention that the New Zealand Police Gazette, at present digitized and available on Archway, will soon be uploaded on to Papers Past.

Can Papers Past provide an approximate date when this may take place?

I recall having the Police Gazette on my Papers Past wish-list a couple of years ago, so I'm very pleased to hear it's going to happen.

Hi Spades! Sheepishly I can tell you that it happened back in early August. We added three Police Gazette titles to the Magazines section of the collection, giving combined coverage of 1863-1945.

I was on and off work at the time following a head injury and I wasn't as on-the-ball with notifying you all as I normally am. I'm very sorry about that. It's a cracking good source though, we're really proud to make this available on the site - it's been a long time coming.

Oh WOW!

SO much easier to search and read results!

I just tried to search using 'deserters' and got 1544 results. For those interested the Gazette using different headings to differentiate the type of deserter, so you can narrow the search by trying;

Deserters from Merchant Vessel.
Deserters from His Majesty’s Service.
ABSENTEES, DESERTERS, ETC., FROM HIS MAJESTY’S SERVICE

Question:

Not being in the slightest 'tech savvy', can the pages that are presented side-on, be rotated please?

Aren't you lucky with your finds!   My line is squeaky clean, no dirty laundry flapping about, hold on, there was someone murdered, but that was about 13 years ago!  so not a closet find

Keep those fingers busy and hope you find more.
