ATTWOOD of Worcester - searching for years
« on: Friday 12 August 05 14:05 BST (UK) »
I am searching for information on my grandmother's family.  Her name is ATTWOOD, Beatrice May, b. Sep 1897 in Worcester, died in Halifax Nova Scotia.  She came to Canada around 1914 with her sister Louisa (through Middlemore Home).  Louisa returned to Worcester around 1916.  Parents were Charles and Harriet (unknown last name for Harriet).  There may also be a sister Annie.  Names linked with Louisa or Annie are Walter and Peter Cook.   I have been searching for years and this is all the info I have.  Can anyone help.  Thank you so much.  Brenda

Hi Brenda,

This looks as if it might be Beatrice's birth reg:

ATTWOOD, Beatrice May
Sept. q 1897, Worcester 6c/288.

If you order this certificate, it will give you the names of both parents (including her mother's maiden name).   I'll keep fossicking in the meantime.

Cheers,

Ros

Thank you so much for searching for me.  Do I order the certificate through Worcester Vitals?

Cheers

If you tap into freebmd (forget exact address - google will bring it up immediately) it will give you info for how to order certificates.

I'm presuming you are not in England! I'm in NZ and fax off for my certificates. It's very reliable and takes about two weeks. I'm sure there are other ways to do it - but this one works for me.

I'm still hunting for your Charles, Harriet and Beatrice on censuses but with no luck so far.

Good luck!

Ros

Thanks again Ros for all your help.

No, I am not in England.  I am in Canada.

I sometimes wonder if Harriet, Charles, Beatrice and Louisa existed, it has been a long road trying to find info.  They must have existed - I am here!  I was able to get papers from Canadian British Home Children archives for Beatrice and Louisa.  These papers give no information on family in England, just arrival in Canada, where they were placed for work, and Louisa's return to England.

I'll keep plugging away.  And ... thank you for the welcome.  Time for me to get ready to work or I'll be late.  I'm sure we'll be in touch.

Take care,
Brenda

Hi Brenda
There is a family in Herefordshire in 1901 father Charles but mother Louisa not Harriet. They do have a daughter called Annie with them in 1891, no Louisa but she could be working away. Other problem is Beatrice born Worcestershire is 8 which is older than your Beatrice  ??? Do you want me to post full details in case?
Cheers Jan ;)

There is an Annie Louisa Attwood born Malvern as are the other children in the family I mentioned - working as a servant in 1901.

Hi Jan,

Thank you for responding.  I have Louisa's birth listed as 1899, but you never know.  The birth dates I have for both Beatrice and Louisa came from LDS site.  The year does coincide with the ages that they were when they were sent to Canada.

I appreciate the help you are providing.

Cheers,
Brenda

The Annie Louisa I found was born 1883 so would seem far too old to be yours and the only Beatrice Attwood born Worcestershire appears unlikely too as you her age from more than one source  :-\. I've had another search for these people but as you have already found there is no sign of them  ???
If you want to PM me your email I could send the image of the family I found for you to peruse.
Cheers Jan ;)
