Hello, I am trying to find out more about the Austens who were living in Burmarsh at the same time as John, in order to trace the family tree higher up.
In 1821, Burmarsh had a population of 94 people and Eastbridge had a population of 18 people, so I think the chances of finding related Austens is higher than searching wider (i.e. Lympne).
On 7 April 1825, Edward Austen, looker, and William Austen, grazier, both of Eastbridge in Burmarsh, were given the license for the Shepherd and Crook alehouse where all the local tithes for Burmarsh were collected.
A William Austen married Charlotte Dean in Appledore on 22 December 1814. I have evidence that this is the sister of Catherine Dean who married John Austen in Appledore in 1822. Therefore William and John are at least brothers-in-law, but likely related by blood too. William and Charlotte had several children in Burmarsh.
I have also found information about a William Austen who was the tenant of a large amount of grazing land in Eastbridge/Burmarsh, along with one John Back, on the property of David Papillon.
