Private Isaac Eland,  4th Volunteer Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, died of a disease /was killed 27 October 1901 in Standerton, Transvaal, South Africa. He left a will in England and probate confirms his death date. His widow Elizabeth (Wilby) Eland died without remarrying 16 November 1951, Chester-le-Street, County Durham.  Presumably she collected a Widow's Pension for 50 years. There is a memorial in brass to those local men who died in that war in Newcastle Cathedral. His name is on it.

If there are service records I would like to know how he died.
