I think F M P may have the year of birth wrong in 1939 register.  There is a possible adjustment noted.

Try searching -  Jennie S  Johnson (Coulson)

1.
(previous discussion)
Yes I remember discussing this woman a few years ago.
The reference to 1939 Electoral Roll in Ancestry was a new discovery,
which is why I reopened the subject particularly around that new discovery.

2.
(Electoral Roll)
So if Jean is list on the ER as 'Rw', the 'w' simply implies female rather than widow or wife?
Therefore Jean has her own home in 1939.
If she'd had a career, would she not also qualify under the 'O' code?
Am also curious about the presence of people registering for an election at her address
who indicate that they really live elsewhere. What does this mean?

3.
(1939 reg)
Yes the name match looks good but the year of birth is massively wrong.
I have just let go of my FindMyPast subscription so can't view the image.
Can someone check the address for me and see if it matches the address
given on the 1939 Electoral Roll, as listed above?
Would like to know what her occupation is too.

Thanks
-DC

My relative now seems to be in two places in the same year.

1939 Reg has her in Durham (September) whereas the 1939 ER has her in London.

Can we get a date or a season for the 1939 ER?
If it is earlier than September then it implies she went north prior to the outbreak of war.

I’ve looked at the front of that electoral roll but can’t see a date.
But surely people would put their names forward sometime before it was actually published. Even as early as mid 1938?

The Electoral register was in force for the period 15 October 1939 to 14 October 1940.

The LMA have a fact sheet, sorry I cannot give link at the moment but qualifying dates for the register which started in October was June or July.  In later years when registers started from February qualifying was October.

Electoral rolls now show Jennie to be in London/Westminster as early as 1933 and on record nearly every year up to 1939. She reappears in 1946 & 1947. Married in 1948 and she appears again under her married name in 1948 (Jennie S Johnson).

If the ER for 1939 was compiled in early 1939 for use starting in Oct,
then her appearance in County Durham in the 1939 Reg (Sept) is not impossible.
But it is strange that she would dash off to the north before the war for an unspecified period of time and then return (no later then 1946). Life happens.. maybe she had her reasons.

Maybe she just left London because of the war, many people did.

Yes I had considered that too.
But before the outbreak of war?
Did people early in 1939 anticipate trouble in London?
