I didn’t see that  :-\

There are a few Matthew Rowells around - various ages so could be wrong - maybe the wrong tree as mentioned.

No I think you were right first time.  1841 has “Isab. Shield” aged 30 in the family, Matthew also there.  The month-old baby Jonathan Shield was registered Jun qtr 1841 Hexham with mmn Rowell.

All - thank you.

I now have marriage cert details for Isabella and William. They married at The Chapel at Ninebanks (Church of England by Banns)in the Parish of Allendale on 2 June 1840 both stated as Of full age William a widower, Isabella a spinster. Her father Matthew a Miner His father Jonathan Shield also a miner. Isabella living at Ninebanks and William at Dryburn. The names of witnesses are difficult to read.

so is the baptism identified by Haywood the right Isabella - if so it gives me the family!

Age of isabella can only taken from the census as Haywood said - I had not considered this info correctly apologies !
1841 shows her as 30 yrs born c 1811
1851 shows her as 43 yrs Born c 1808

so this may be the correct isabella

Free Reg shows this baptism. https://www.freereg.org.uk
St Cuthbert Allendale
Isaba Rowell baptised 10th September 1809
Parents Matt Rowell and Mary Sim
Abode  Cattoni

Before I start researching the line for Isabella - ancestry has another baptism listed that could be her

Isabella Rowell
Gender:   Female
Birth Date:   4 Sep 1807
Baptism Date:   19 Sep 1807
Baptism Place:   Saint Peter and Allenheads Chapelries,Allendale,Northumberland,England
Father:   Matthew Rowell
Mother:   Isabella Brown
FHL Film Number:   0252518, 0252523-4

any thoughts on how I would be able to identify the right child? and therefore the right family?

many thanks

Maybe have a look for any burial of the 1807 Isabella (and her mother) in case the 1809 one was born to the same Matthew with a subsequent wife?

Any burial of either child in case only one or other survived to adulthood.

Also any other baptisms with father Matthew Rowell, and/or marriages for men of that name, for an understanding as to whether these were two separate families having children at the same time, or one man with successive marriages.

Great idea - done that using freeReg - just one - aged 89! :(

but thanks for the idea.

Trying to trace both couples in the 1941 census to see if Matthews occupation os not a miner for one - that would help!

Matthew and Mary Sim married 15 Jun 1807 Allendale.
They bapt same day ISABA/WM 10 Sep 1809 (William is noted as 1st Son)
Abode Catton

Now MATT/BELLA Rowel bapt;
BELLA 15 July 1810 3rd Daug
JANE 15 Jul 1810 4th Daug
Abode Tedham

All above on FreeREG

Familysearch. Org has a MATHEW Rowell christened 20 October 1805 to Mathew Rowell and Isabel Brown

So looks like 2 different couples to me.

Aah they married 3 December 1796 Allendale (Matt Rowell/Isabella Brown)
