Hi All,

Can anyone please help in finding  what happened to Herbert John Belcher?
He was bapt. in 1892 East Hagbourne to Frederick Belcher & Emma (nee Froude). In 1907 he joined the GWR as a clerk leaving in Sep 1911. He appears in the 1911 census as a boarder in Acton, Middx but I have no idea where he went from there.

There is a 1939 Register entry for a Herbert J Belcher running the "Marquis of Granby"  pubilc house in Lincolnshire which could be him with a wife (Ruth)  & son  but somehow I have my doubts.

I'm just wondering if anyone has any more knowledge or can find more records.
I suppose if I could find marriage for him it might reveal the name of his father.

Any help will be than appreciated.
(Have tried Anc..y, F/Search, FreeReg, FreeBMD no success)

Hi! I am Dianah Belcher - grand-daughter of the late Herbert John Belcher and Ruth Esme. They did indeed have the Marquis of Granny public house in Sleaford Lincolnshire. Their son Frederick James Belcher raided there with them - he is my father. They moved to Calne in Wiltshire where they ran a guest house at 2 Market Hill, Calne before retiring in the early 1970s to Chippenham. Ruth Esme was never married to him. She was never granted a divorce from her husband Tom. We didn't find this out until her death. Hope this helps

Hello  Dianah,

Welcome to Rootschat. and to the "Belcher" family. Pleased that you have found this page as its
over a year since I last wrote about Herbert John.

I am the g/son of Charles Belcher who was the brother of Herbert John (born 3-5) & bapt. 3-7-1892 East Hagbourne. I have been tracing my ancestors for many years and have been able to put together quite a lot of info.
I don't know if you are trying to find your ancestors but I might be able to help.

The info you have given confirms what I had always thought regarding your g/father.

Rootschat offers a facility for members to contact each other via private messages (PM) but you need to have posted at least 3 postings first. Replying to this will then count as the 2nd and eventually I can let you know in detail what I have found out regarding the "Belchers" if you are interested.

I'm in Australia so there might be a time lag in replies.

Hoping to hear further from you.

Hi Diana,

Sorry I haven't replied earlier.

I have made a chart of some of the "Belcher" family which I would like to send to you, but I will need an address.
If you reply to this post here, that will be your 3rd posting so you can then use the "My Messages" facility which will give some privacy between us.
That way we can exchange emails so I can then send my chart to you  if you wish.

Hoping to hear further from you.
