It's very easy to stop: simply add the relevant country name to all place names on your tree.

Er, no  :)

I just don't believe/trust all the marketing hype over DNA, and have no intention of ever going down that route ;D ;D

Just to add to the confusion, I also never look at "Lifestory" either!
Just never found it useful?

I agree, Edward. I've taken out the Country and just left the County. It works for Eng, Wales, Scotland counties, as long as there is a recognised place name.

The solution is in your own hands :D
If you're not prepared to fix things yourself, then please stop complaining about it! ;D

Many of my ancestors were born/married/lived/died in Somerset and Suffolk.
They were always coming up as "Somerset, New Jersey" or "Somerset, Pennsylvania" or "Somerset, Massachusetts" or "Suffolk, Virginia" or "Suffolk, New York" or "Suffolk, Massachusetts".

It annoyed the heck out of me - so I did something about it. ;D ;D

I added England as you suggested and it didn't make a jot of difference, look at the pictures.

Did you move away and come back to this person to force Ancestry to redo things?

We know it is awful, but we have to give it ONE chance to get its act together.

The real problem is that Ancestry belive that their gazetteer is THE definitive view of the world. If they come across an address which doesn't fit, they guess.

Hence their total inability to figure out the location of their White House.
Looking at ALSTON in south Ribble area, ALSTEAD and DONBAVAND/DUNBABIN etc. everywhere, HOWCROFT and MARSH in Bolton and Westhoughton, PICKERING in the Whitehaven area.

I use FTM for all data entry and then synchronise, the changes do seem to take effect very quickly.

Ancestry seem to only update the indexes to trees a few times a year. So it may be months before your changes show up.
As long as these silly locations aren't in your actual tree, I wouldn't worry about it too much.
