If you need the parents of William James Wilson born 1860/61 then William Wilson who married Alice Kay are not it.

Where does your William James Wilson say he was born?

And so Harriet must have been born at the beginning of 1861.

Many thanks, Romilly.

Many thanks for looking amondg.

Yes, I’ve ordered quite a few of those Birth Certificates over the years, but none of them seem to fit…

I’ve never been able to find my Grandfather William James Wilson anywhere before he married my Grandmother Margaret Rees in Swansea in June 1893. On that Certificate he gives his age as 32 years, Occuption: House Painter. Father’s name as William Wilson (Deceased) Occupation: Mason.

I’ve never been able to find a William Wilson, Mason, with a son William James Wilson.

I have my Grandparents on the 1901, 1911 and 1921 Censuses for Swansea. And I have his Death Certificate, - he died on the 29th December 1937.

I’m either missing something obvious, or he was using a different name before he married my Grandmother…

Romilly 😱😰

Have you looked at 1861 census Preston

Margaret Wilson 25 Boarder Mar. born Co. Antrim Ireland, spinner in Linen Mill
William James 7months born Preston **
Sarah Payne 22  born Belfast
Jane Nesbit 22 born Belfast
James Nesbit 18 born Belfast
Thomas ward 17 born Belfast

This would be the William James Wilson registered Preston 1860 with mother's maiden name Nesbit.
Jane and James who are boarding with her would be her brother and sister?

They may have moved to Manchester and if WJW only remembered Manchester he would have thought he was born there.

Yes, I ordered that Birth Certificate.

The Father was Thomas Wilson, soldier. I couldn’t find  Thomas Wilson on the later Censuses. I did follow Margaret Nesbit’s family to Antrim, but got no further with that side.

I usually cross check against the 1911 Census and so I’ll have a look and see if I found the William James Wilson born Preston 1860 on that one.

Romilly.
