'Altered to Sydney for so long as he remains in the service of Mr Court Pitt st
Letter regd 47/555 and recommended by Mag Parramatta'

Pitt street being in Central Sydney as opposed to Parramatta which is out a bit 20km from central Sydney. He later has it altered to Moreton Bay in Queensland?

That could be it!  We were wondering about Sydney!   ;)

[Did you write the first reply on an iPad which made up words for you?   Mine does that and if I am not careful some very odd things come out ( e.g family liar instead of familial or familiar).   ;) ;)]

Thanks, Shanreagh! Sydney would make sense in light of the Pitt Street comment.

I'll have to look and see if there are trade directories from that period, see if I can find out what Mr Court did for a living, considering John was a plumber and glazier.

Also might appear in any newspapers that were around then.  Happy to help...that's what we are all here for...helping the similarly  addicted!
