My gg grandmother was Sarah PITTOCK b 1831 Walmer, Kent, who had my g grandfather Henry William PITTOCK out of wedlock in 1851 in Deal, Kent.
In 1853 Sarah married James JUDGE in Deal. James was in the Rifle Brigade and they went off to India where they had at least five children. He was apparently born in Ireland in c1830
I cannot find any trace of any of them in the UK after this, but through a contact from DNA on Ancestry I have been informed that James aged 46 with children Arthur age 20, Mary Jane age 18 and Elizabeth age 11 all arrived in New York on a ship called SPAIN on 23rd February 1881
There were two other children Charles Richard b 1861 and Frederick George b 1864. All the children were born in India. There could possibly be another called Alfred, but no other details known.
Is it possible that one of you wonderful people can find the whereabouts of Sarah and the other two children please.
Did they die in India or did they get back to the UK? Where did the ship SPAIN sail from to take the family to New York.
I understand that James became at least a Sgt in the Rifle Brigade and was awarded the Indian Mutiny Medal with the Lucknow clasp in 1859.
Thank you for at least reading this.
Tom
