That looks quite possible Peonie.

Compare the n in the ping of ping pong, and the ns in Queenie. Looks the same as the last letter of the mystery word.  :)

The letters are 'F-l-u-l-e-n', as jennifer c says.
Google recognises this as Fluelen, Switzerland.
Lane, Burgess: Cheshire. Finney, Rogers, Gilman:Derbys
Cochran, Nicol, Paton, Bruce:Scotland. Bertolle:London
Bainbridge, Christman, Jeffs: Staffs

Jennifer

And the postcard is from Switzerland too. (Hotel National Lucerne) May be further confirmation that the place may be in Switzerland. The squiggle that makes the letter look like a 'k' is the end of the  letter 'y"  from the word 'safely' above.

The Hotel National in Lucerne is more or less opposite the steamer landings where the lake steamers from Flüelen dock. It’s also opposite the main Lucerne railway station which is just behind the steamer landings. The trains from Flüelen would come into the railway station.  On Thursday morning I was stood by the steamer landings looking across towards the Hotel National.
