« on: Friday 25 January 19 22:42 GMT (UK) »
I have Benjamin Kingman arriving in Sydney in 1804 aboard the Coromandel after being sentenced to Life at Horsham Assizes Sussex.  But in 1805 he is pardoned and then he disappears can anybody find why he was pardoned and locate Benjamin after his release please.

 :)

I have posted on your recent thread  :)

Have you considered following up on any of the others who received their Absolute Pardons about the same time as your chap?

NSW Colonial Secretary’s Papers are available via Ancestry’s partnership with NSW State Archives.

The Index to those papers is available here:

 http://colsec.records.nsw.gov.au/

George MITCHELL,  (the chap convicted with Benjamin KINGMAN) arrived on same voyage.   He did not received an Absolute Pardon, and his Conditional Pardon came through in 1821.

I have a deal of info on George Mitchell, but I won’t be able to access my records for several weeks, as I am not home.

Some observations:

The first use of the surname KINGMAN on NSW BDM online indexes: (I cannot see any sign of Benjamin KINGMAN, nor any connection between any of the following and Benjamin KINGMAN, last sighted in NSW official records in 1805).

Death of Maggie KINGMAN in 1884, she was aged 30, she died at Camperdown and her death was registered in the Newtown district (Camperdown is an inner Sydney suburb).

Birth of twins for Albert C and Annie KINGMAN in 1883, registered Glebe district (inner Sydney suburb).

Marriage of Albert C KINGMAN and Annie HARRIS registered in 1883, Redfern district (inner Sydney suburb)

Albert C KINGMAN’s death registered in 1935, he was aged 79 years, he died at Woollahra (inner Sydney suburb).

The marriage KINGMAN=HARRIS … May 12, 1883 announced in the SMH 19 May 1883

The death of Maggie KINGMAN, beloved wife of Charles
https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/163270748 Sydney Mail 27 Sept 1884

Sadly, an infant death, Arnold aged 13 months, Westmoreland St, Forest Lodge… Cutting in Australian Star, 22 Feb 1892. https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/163270748

I can see online images that include Benjamin KINGMAN who was sentenced along with the following who all came on that same voyage in 1804:
Henry MURRAY
John GUEGEN (JM not sure of that surname spelling  ::) )
George MITCHELL
John Cook FANCUT

Hi JM

Thanks for your continued interest.  There is no record that I can find of Benjamin in the Absolute Pardons, I note that George Mitchell was sent on to Newcastle.  I have also checked Norfolk Island records again no mention.

just need to enter one word  :)  KINGMAN

so perhaps go to NSW State Archives : https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/keyname

or https://www.records.nsw.gov.au/archives/collections-and-research/guides-and-indexes/convicts-index

Gives you the following:
KINGMAN   Benjamin, 20 Mar 1805, Absolute Pardon   and the image is found at the following references [4/4486; Reel 800 Page 015]   I believe it is that image that has been uploaded to at least the Ancestry website as part of the commercial partnership between NSW Archives and Ancestry.
