Hello all. Just a long shot but wondering if anyone has or is researching and come across John Joseph Pennington born 1828 and baptised 16 Jan Fleet St London Jan 1829. Father John Joseph Pennington, attorney. Mother Sarah Sicker. I'm trying to find details of the father: John Joseph Pennington. The son John Joseph Pennington (1828) ended up in Tasmania and was living in Tasmania with a Daniel George Pennington (London 1801) who was the son of George Pennington (c1775) and Margaret, both of whom lived in Cockermouth, Cumb.

In 1776 there is a J. Pennington Attorney at Law in Wigan   (Newspapers)

A bit before your time period, but might be worth looking at on the principle of occupations running in families.

There is a Pennington line that originated in Kendal with Robert Pennington bap. 12/4/1752. They became makers of clocks and marine chronometers and lived in the City of London in the 1800's.
Possibly some connection?

There is a paper written by A.D. Stewart titled "Pennington of London: a brief history of the family, the firm and their chronometers" published in Antiquarian Horology vol 34 no 3 Sept 2013.

I'm not related to Pennington, but did some research for a relative who owned one of their chronometers.

Looking at the baptism register I noticed that

both the father’s surname and the mother’s surname were given which I found strange as no other entry  on the page has the mother’s surname.

The of place of birth is given as the workhouse which doesn’t really fit with where you’d expect an attorney’s son to be born

So I am wondering

Were the parents actually married?
