Police records, Audlem/Wybunbury, 1850's
« on: Saturday 13 August 05 20:58 BST (UK) »
I have recently found out that an ancestor of mine, a BENJAMIN WOULIDGE was a police constable in either or both these locations in the 1850's and I was wondering whether there are any personnel records existent, andf if so where I might find them.
Of course if sks has access to same and can give me some help, I would be most grateful as it will be a long time before I can visit the area myself
                           Best wishes
                                            Jane

Hi Jane

You could try a direct approach to the Cheshire constabulary and ask if they keep service records or have an archivist, below is a link to their web site.

As your ancestor served in the 1850s its probable that the constabulary no longer have records going back that far and they are kept else where.Below is a link to the Cheshire records office. They may have police service records or if not should be able to put you in touch with the force archivist.

Hope this helps

Thank you for your help, Mick.  it was most kind of you to take the time to do so
I will try the avenues you suggest. Meanwhile, does anyone else have any ideas as I am out of the country at the moment and won't be back till next year.
                   thanking you all in advance
