Hi Justin, I think your Grandad is my Grandad's brother. I was looking up your Grandad because his name is on the roll of honour in Padgate Primary School and came across your post in a search. My auntie researched the Holcroft family and we are related to Sir Thomas Holcroft who owned land in the Culcheth area of Warrington. There is a Holcroft Lane in Culcheth. We also have a connection to Captain Blood who plotted to steal the Crown Jewels. I was looking at the family tree I have from my auntie and it ties in with what you have posted. Our dad's would have been cousins and I think you're related to Nicky Holcroft who was a quite well known TV personailty in the 70's/80's and was known as Nicky Martin. I remember he used to visit a lady who lived near us, we knew her as Mrs Cox.

Hi Jan10, we are definitely on the same page....my dad, James (born 1915) got married in 1936 to Gladys Bradshaw and had three kids, of whom Nicky was one, so he will have been my half-brother. He sadly passed away last year but I saw he had a great career on telly and later on the cruise liners as an entertainer. I am also a pro musician and always wondered where the musical ear came from - my dad and mum never mentioned dad's first marriage and we only found out about it by chance a couple of years ago, when my dad was featured in an article in the Warrington Guardian.
Both the Thomas Holcroft and the Colonel Blood connection are correct, and I believe Thomas Holcroft built a house on the foundations of the Vale Royal Abbey just outside Winsford. Blood was married to a Maria Holcroft.
