This may also help to ease your mind

Newcastle Evening Chronicle 03 Nov 1921, page 2 col 1
Deaths

BARRETT  Blaydon, 39 Polmaise Street, 1st inst., aged 40 years John, dearly beloved husband of Catherine Barrett. Requiem Mass St Joseph's Church, Saturday 10(?print not clear) a.m. Interment Blaydon Cemetery immediately after. All friends kindly invited R.I.P.

So there was a full Requiem Mass at the church, the priest would attend the burial and consecrate the plot he was to be buried in. All as I would expect.

Boo

The registers for St Joseph's are held at Tyne and Wear Archives. They have the registers which record deaths/funerals in the parish for 1904-1992.

The LDS do have these registers indexed but the images are only available to view at one of their  Family History Centres on their computers.
https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:68Z7-WFCK that's the indexed entry(ignore the fact that it says it took place in Northumberland, it was filmed with a register from Gosforth in Northumberland and they must have missed changing the county when they indexed it -itsdefinitley St Joseph, Blaydon)

two choices if you want to get a copy
1 visit a Family History Centre near you, that would be free,  though I can't see one in the Bedfordshire area https://www.familysearch.org/centers/locations/

2 email Tyne and Wear Archives and ask for a copy to be emailed to you - there is a cost for that, I think its about £7 . You need to give them the name of the church, the man's name and date of the death and funeral. They will give you a link to pay online and then, when they have copied the record will email it to you. Be aware that the images may not be brilliant.
