Ferrie/Porter
« on: Wednesday 06 February 19 11:03 GMT (UK) »
I’m looking for any information on John Ferries family

JOHN FERRIE was born Abt. 1857 in Donegal.  He married Margaret Porter on the 28 Apr 1904 in BURT Co. Donegal, daughter of JOHN PORTER and ELIZABETH MULLEN. She was born 06 Sep 1889 in Carnamoyle Donegal. John was 47 when got married and Margaret 24 and I think they had two children and came from the area of Muff. I've got a lot on Margaret's family.

Thanks for any help

In the same townland to John Ferry in 1901 is a slightly younger James Ferry (possibly brother?).

James Ferry married 1872 Rose Carr- his father Daniel

Birth of daughter Roseanne confirms mother was Carr-

Suspect the date is wrong - this would make her only 14 when marrying.

Hi
I think this one could be a mix-up as your right about the age as Margaret according to the 1901 and 1911 census gives her birth as 1889 which does make her 14? I never looked at that, Duh! The 1911 census says she 22 and unmarried. Also confusing is that she called herself Maggie as signed in the link to the church records.

http://www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1911/Donegal/Kilderry/Carnamoyle/500014/

Yet I was told she married an older man (Ferrie? Fox) and it states on the church record her father as being John Porter farmer which her father was. Two Maggie’s/ two John Porters. Back to brick wall, I think?

Thanks for the help much appreciated

She can't have been born 06 Sep 1889  and be 24 in 1904!

Elizabeth Porter was born Sept 5 1889 to John Porter and Elizabeth Mullen Carnamoyle
https://civilrecords.irishgenealogy.ie/churchrecords/images/birth_returns/births_1889/02464/1915035.pdf
so Margaret's birth year of 1889 has to be incorrect or the girls names are mixed up
