I have an apology to make to everyone who contributed to this discussion.  Some of the information on James O'Reilly isn't right.  He was born in Dunmore or Tuam, Galway but married Ellen who did come from Kilkenny. I have searched for his siblings, one Maureen died in 1946 age 20-21 and have found her in New Rahoon Cemetery, Galway.  That hasn't helped with my search for her brother though.
There are some photo's on Ancestry of Ellen Berrigan but I don't have a subscription to Ancestry so can't confirm that this is the right person.

Your post here fits with the Dunmore births.

Here is a birth for Ellen Cullinan with father Henry in Callan.

If this is all your friend’s family, it has been much easier to find second time round.  ;)

I'm very sorry for not keeping up with all the posts that have been sent to me.  I apologise and will sort them out.
Looking at them briefly they are all the right people but what I'm trying to find out is that James O'Reilly disappeared to US I don't know the exact date but it was after he had produced a number of children.  Sent regular money to Ellen for many years but never came back.  There were rumours that he had re-married but no confirmation.

Will continue with this when I have all details straight

I'm ploughing through the information -

The family lived in a place called Callan in Kilkenny

I know its a bit mixed up but I'm getting there!  Hope this of use

In that case, it is not the Galway born children as she is Ellen Cullinan/e.

James Reilly/O'Reilly ( - d before wife, Boston MA)

inspector for MTA, accidental death involving a trolley
               is he: 1930, Wayfayer's Lodge, age 48

is he: 1940, Tewksbury State Hospital, age 64
That piece of information is correct

I believe he had an accident with a trolley bus - I don't know if he recovered
