Elijah WRIGHT per Hashmey , Last convict transport to NSW 1849
« on: Thursday 07 February 19 06:08 GMT (UK) »
Elijah WRIGHT , 19yo is recorded in Ancestrys England & Wales Criminal Register on 16 Mar 1847 with malicious stabbing and wounding to cause disfigurement in company of Thomas MOORE 19, & George COOK 24. Elijah got 10 years. Cant find records here of Thomas & George making the long journey

Staffordshire Archives list an on line Staffordshire Qrt Session index, but no Elijah WRIGHT. I tackled FindMyPast newspaper date base  to see if I could find more info on who was attacked .... That was wishful thinking ::)
Elijah was b 1828 Stoke of Trent son of Elijah and Sarah WRIGHT nee SHERRATT

Some local help would be great

Many thanks

The newspaper reports were very interesting but voluble .............. Found a ref to all 3 of these fellows getting sentenced to 10  years but no actual  names stated. Elijah WRIGHT  certainly was dispatched here but neither  were George COOK or Thomas MOORE.  Maybe was sign of the times with the then residents of NSW where well & truly against any more convict shipments

Any way for finding out what happend to these 2 ( Thomas MOORE ,19 and George COOK 24)
Did Constable  William Hughes survive ?   Found a Wm HUGHES in a Staffs Police index . He joined in 1846 . No clue as to whether was the same person and could cost  me 7GBS to find out  if he was or not.
Elijah WRiGHT had been an apprentice potter so that  event turned out life changing for him.  He was a grandson  Obadiah SHERRATT, who was a Master Potter .  What might have been  ::)
