*Lookup Request* Lamberton Toll
« on: Saturday 09 February 19 10:47 GMT (UK) »
Good Morning all,

I'm trying to find a marriage between a Richard Money(Mooney) and Dorothy Trainer at Lamberton Toll in 1860.

I found a newspaper entry stating those details, just not the date/month

Many thanks
Liz

It would appear that marriages at Lamberton Toll were like marriages at Gretna Green. The following link will tell you more about them

Thank you for the link.
I do have a book ' Irregular Mrriages Recorded in the Berwick Advertiser and Other Border Papers 1808 to 1864'
Volume 2. Which I can't find them in (I know they might not have put it in the paper(found he was a bigamist for the 3rd time)

Your post is very interesting because a couple of years ago I did some research for  a lady living in Berwick whose 2xgrt grandmother had married a French sailor. It turned out that she suspected her 2xgrt grandmother had been previously married as she appeared in the census with a different surname from her maiden name. To cut a long story short, I discovered that her first husband had eventually been charged with bigamy . His name, I am pretty certain, was Richard Mooney!  The name of the 2xgrt grandmother was Trainor but the forename was not Dorothy.

I will look up my notes tomorrow and let you know what I Find out.   Watch this space!

Hi Belfordian,

Yes you are right, the name was Jane. I did find newspaper articals relating to the court case, one which names the other 2 ladies aswel.

I am in contact with Jane Trainers great granddaughter, and was trying to find out the date of marriage for her.

Would be very interested in any information you would be willing to share, thank you!

Just out of interest I looked to see if he had been brought to court for bigamy and came across this

www.scottishindexes.com/adentry.aspx?adid=857279

A Richard Money alias Murray, born 1834 in Fife, a Cooper, married to Susan nee Ritchie, of Queen Street, Glasgow, was accused of bigamy with a Jane Ann Mathews in 1857.

Probably not the same chap.
