naming traditions ???????
« on: Sunday 14 August 05 00:32 BST (UK) »
What kind of naming traditions are there in your family??

i am trying to figure out why one of my relatives has the middle name of CRAWFORD. i am hoping that it can tell me about his relatives.

his name was albert Crawford KETLEY.
Crawford wasn't his mothers maiden name. so i am assuming that it was likely to be his grandmothers maiden name?? any ideas.

my dad's middle name was his grandmothers maiden name...(bryan Edwards KETLEY)

any ideas people???

or what are the strange naming traditions in your family.

love to hear from you.

One line of my family has the paternal grandmother's maiden name and maternal grandmother's maiden name used as middle names. One for the boys and the other for the girls.

Both of my children have George in their names as the name George goes back a number of generations in mine and my husband's family.

Hi Sarah and Tabitha!!

Paul E came up with a good idea - he suggested that the middle name could be the name of the Godparent!!

Something that made me stop and think - and I found two of my names were just that - named after Godparents ...............!!

Hi Sarah,

I am trying to work out one of my lot's middle name - it is Gunnery

I am working on the premise that it is grandmothers maiden name - as I know mother's maiden name was Smith!

Trust Paul to throw a spanner in the works - it better not be Godparents!!  ;D

Good luck

ok thats posted,

fingers crossed...

another naming tradition: my boyfriends family names the first born son after the father. BUT the fathers first name is given as a pre-fix to the son's name. (does that make sense???)

ie the fathers name is Paul SURNAME and the son name is Paul Christopher SURNAME

but his given name, the one they call him is Christopher...

very strange.
