Roche Family Reserach
« on: Thursday 14 February 19 11:22 GMT (UK) »
I am researching the Roche family history for a friend.

Her grandfather James Roche, she believes was born in Cork but later moved to Birmingham, England where he married his Irish wife Mary O'Neill (or O'Neil) in Q3 1940. In Q3 1965 (aged 49) he was killed when hit by a bus whilst crossing a road in Birmingham.

She believes that when he died, her grandmother Mary placed a notice in both their local newspaper as well as one in Cork (I believe this would be The Cork Examiner or Irish Examiner), and I would like to find these articles if anyone can help please. I have online newspaper access but mine only goes up to 1950.

My friend also believes that James had a brother called 'Danny' (Daniel?) who later emigrated to Canada (via Liverpool), this is also something which I would like to find.

I appreciate any help anyone can offer.
Thank you in advance

Afraid not, but I am going to ask my friend further questions such as that to establish any further research.

Sadly she doesn't have any information past her grandparents but James had various jobs; night porter at one of the hospitals. I think he also worked in one of the factories. (but I’m not sure which one - she  remember's her dad saying he lost a finger).

At the moment that is all I know too.

He got married in 1940 in Birmingham, UK aged 24 and I don't know when he moved to England.I would hazard a guess and say all these jobs were in England. Is there a way of finding any passenger lists as to when he moved. Mary was Irish but I believe they met in Birmingham so she probably wouldn't have traveled.

My friend doesn't know when her grandfather's birthday was - her knowledge of him is very vague. She has tried contacting other family members but hasn't heard anything back from them yet.
