Yes, he is the Samuel Burgess, buried at St.Pauls, Hanging Heaton.  I believe he was married twice; his first wife was Maria Kirk (died 1898 age 28), second wife, Mary Jane (born Dewsbury 1859, died 1930).

There’s a third marriage I think, to Mary Jane Walker in 1933.

It looks as though Sam was a bit of a lad!

Wow! Thank you so much for all the information!  This has cleared up quite a few questions that I had.
I’m hoping to visit Samuel’s birthplace (Belchford) and his last resting place (Hanging Heaton) very shortly.
Thank you again!

Samuel and Mary J are on the 1939 Register with three of Mary's children from her previous marriage.  One record closed so either another of Mary's children or someone else.

This looks like Mary's first marriage:-

Walker    George        Louth    7a   1219

Welcome to rootschat, Joeysm.

Do you have access to any subscription sites, and do you know of freebmd and IGI?

ancestry.co.uk has free access to Ireland/Uk records this weekend!!

I’ve only just started on my ancestry quest, so haven’t joined any other site except this one.  I just Googled ‘Samuel Burgess’ and RootsChat popped up.  I’ve been going through a lot of old papers, and found some names from the past...so my quest continues...!
