Can't see a birth, presuming you mean 1871, but there is a Selina Ann Longley born Sep 1868 Kent.

That looks to be her, in 1891 she is a servant in Croydon age 22.

Oh but Selina Stringer already in 1901 not Stoner  with her parents.

Selina had a child Charles Henry Longley killed in 1915.

Is anyone else finding this as confusing as me?

1. First, there does not seem to be a Thomas with the second names Josiah William bc.1873.

2. As Thomas J. Stringer his birthdate is given later as 17/11/1873 - however, there are only 2 Thomas Josiah Stringer births Dec.qtr.1873 - one in Aston, Warwickshire and the other in London.  BUT he is not the London one as that one was born 25/10/1873 (bp.4/1/1874 Camden)

3. There is only one Thomas Stringer in Croydon on last census, single - has the right type of occupation but is shown bc.1871 place not known!    Also has adopted son who he is living with in 1939 and yet you say he lived with his wife's grandparents??

'Your' Thomas Josiah Stringer is not the London 1873 one as already explained (son of Samuel and Mary Ann, marriage just posted by lancsann) who had a different birthdate and is living with wife Ada in 1939.

Things just don't seem to be adding up.

Thomas Stringer's 'adopted son' - John William Thomas Stringer married Edith Isabel Nye 11/9/1926 St. Martins, Croydon - John's address is 1 Henley Villas, Dartnell Road, Croydon which is where Thomas, John and Edith are in 1939??

Perhaps the poster could confirm exactly what information they have to go on so we can recap.

Thank you or the info I have received information that he joined the army and supposedly dererted Selina ,  He then died in the ww1 in France
Selina married Thomas Josiah Stringer  in Croydon Surrey 1915  but where Selina is in 1911census is a bit of a mystery,  Possible Croydon area  any information would be most helpful

Do you think the Selina Stringer with Longley boarders in 1901 is the right Selina?

I realise the birthplace for her is Coventry but the combination of surnames is too coincidental.
