Hi
The fact that no-one has replied to this means it is an almost impossible task!   Sussex is an enormous county and the 1841 census is not indexed.   Where in Sussex were the children born?   If you can pin it down to a town or village then you have a much better chance of a response.
Do you have the details of any other census?   If so, then quote it in full as all information helps.

In 1861 they are in Greenwich.  RG9 399 F71 p47
Maria age 20 is born North Chapel Sussex which might help in 1841.
The next three age 18, 8 and 7 are born in Falmouth, a later one age 5 in Gosport and the last one age 3 in Chithurst so they got around a bit!
Let me know if you want the full details.

Hi there

have just scanned through the 62 pages of the 1841 census for North Chapel in Sussex - sorry, but did not notice a single entry for the surname Lewis or variant

Sorry to be so negative

Hi everyone,

Thanks for the replies. I requested a lookup because someone posted a message at Sussex Lookup Offers saying they would do 1841 census lookups and I assumed the census had been indexed.

Unfortunately I don't have an exact address although Andrea was correct in stating that daughter Maria was born in North Chapel in about 1840. Thanks Chris in 1066 for checking the North Chapel census returns.

I'm sure it won't be too long before the 1841 census is indexed? I'll wait until then and try again...

Thanks again for the help and advice!

Kirsten
