All I know so far is that Owen Moraghan was a farmer from Roscommon in the early 1800s. I have gone through all the BMD records for Owen/Eugenii Moraghan/Moraghan (and other spelling variations). As birth certificates are not available much before the early 1830s I went for death certificates and came up with two possibilities. I know that there is an Owen Moraghan, farmer, who owned land in Cleaheen, Foxhill and Annaghmona. It is more than likely that his younger son (also Owen) inherited part of the farm as he is shown as living at Foxhill on the 1901 census (he died before the 1911 census). I can only find one record (so far)  for a Eugenii Moraghan being married to Mariae Gildea.

Link here to information on Carrick on Shannon workhouse. Details of the surviving records at the bottom. I don’t see any admission or infirmary records so probably they haven’t survived. Some of the inmates got mentioned in the minute books (which do exist), if something unusual or important happened but the average inmate and their death normally wouldn’t be.

Yes he is, I would say - although he is described as a servant in 1901 and Owen snr has no status  :-\

Owen Moraghan (1818-1904) was married to Bridget Muldowney. They had 10 children (Thomas b. 1843; John b.1844; Patrick b. 1847; Timothy b. 1848; Mary b. 1849; Thomas II b. 1852; Owen b. 1854; Anna b. 1856; Bridget b. 1858 and Joanna b. 1860). Owen's father was also Owen (1800 - 1870).
Owen Moraghan  1800 - 1870 could well be my great (x3) grandfather BUT, as I mentioned earlier there was a second Owen 1807 - 1867 who died at the Carrick on Shannon workhouse and I asked about their records to see if there was any mention of who he was married to and did they have children.

Did you not get a reply from Ballinamore?  They are usually very quick in replying.
Give a man a record and you feed him for a day.
Teach a man to research, and you feed him for a lifetime.
